Prices at the pump finally decreased on Saturday, but only ever so slightly.

AAA attributes the marginal dip in price per gallon to a decrease in demand, though travel across Northern California shows no signs of slowing.

“I’m glad I’m refilling it right now. Hopefully, I can make it there and back in one tank,” said Mark William, as he filled up his tank in Sacramento before heading towards Tahoe for a wedding.

According to AAA:

  • The current national average per gallon of unleaded regular is $4.989
  • California’s current average is $6.408.
  • California’s average diesel recorded at its highest on Saturday at $7.011

Though sky high, gas prices don’t seem to be deterring travel as much as it is slightly detouring drivers.

“We’ve had to adjust some of our plans and cut some things out just to be able to afford a full tank of gas,” said Chelsea Knowlton, who just completed a road trip from Auburn to Los Angeles.

“I’m driving the motorcycle to save on gas because my truck takes $200 to fill up,” said Leo Antoncecchi, an Auburn area man who says he rides more than 1,000 miles a month on his motorcycle.

In Nevada County, with one of the highest gas prices in California, KCRA 3 met Joel Garay, who is attempting to visit all of the national parks.

“I have to be a lot more strategic with my plan, I can’t really leisurely go to certain places because of gas,” said Garay, filling up his tank in Nevada County on his trip across the United States.
